Beverly Lane Hobbie Lumsden of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at the age of 73. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Dexter Hobbie III and Elizabeth B. Hobbie and a brother, J. Dexter (Dec) Hobbie IV.
Bev is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Larry Lumsden and stepdaughters, Tracy Lumsden of State College, PA and Cari Lorenzoni of Charlottesville, VA. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Hobbie of Roanoke and brother, Edwin (Bo) Hobbie and wife, Patti, of Harrisonburg, VA; grandchildren, Sam and Cole Morgan and Roman Lorenzoni; brother-in-law, Norvell Lumsden; nieces and nephews, Laura Kemp (Andy), Jason Hobbie (Claire), Tucker Hobbie, Tyler Jones, Connor Jones (Kimi), Leslie Sanderford (Scott) and Tim Lumsden (Patty); and the greatest dog of all time, Nick.
She cherished her family with many special memories and times shared during the holidays, on birthdays and graduations. She prayed to God every night to bless family and friends.
Bev graduated from Patrick Henry High School and attended Averett College. She began her professional career at National Life Insurance, then was employed by Norfolk and Western and Norfolk Southern Railway for 17 years. She found her true calling in 1988 beginning her career as a REALTOR® with C.W. Francis & Son, transitioning to Boone & Co./Long and Foster and ending her 30-year span with Lichtenstein and Rowan REALTORS®. She thoroughly enjoyed showing off the Valley she grew up in to all potential clients and made many lasting friendships with her customers and peers. She was a “do it now” straightforward person and it was reflected in her very successful career.
In her younger years Bev was an excellent bowler and swore Larry coerced her in to giving it up because she beat him like a drum each time they competed. Later in life she enjoyed an Irish Coffee on the deck at night searching for meteor showers or snowflakes. Upon retirement, trips to Myrtle Beach and winter specials at the Greenbrier for “penny-slots” gambling were favorites. She loved life, every puppy, and many friends, she will be missed.
