
Jewell Akers, 91, of Vinton, passed away on December 8, 2022.
She was born on February 6, 1931, in the little town of Ivanhoe, Va. Her parents were Mary Elizabeth and Walter Grubb, she had three sisters, Josephine Newberry, Joyce Thacker, and Barbara Young; and a brother, Charles Grubb, all of whom are now in heaven waiting for Jewell to arrive.
Jewell was also preceded in death by her first husband, William Coley; her second husband, Richard Akers; and her loving son, Charles Coley.
Jewell is survived by her children, Sherry Coley, Kenny and Renee Coley, Karen St. Clair, and Alice and Jim Maguire; stepchildren Susan and George Pruner, Eric and Teresea Akers; 11 grandchildren, and many wonderful great-grandchildren.
Jewell worked for Leggett/Belk for 35 years. She loved her job and made many lasting friendships with both coworkers and customers. Jewell was a dedicated Christian who studied the bible and loved participating in the choir. Later in life Jewell went to India on 3 separate occasions to do missionary work. Second to her Christian faith and her church participation was bowling. Jewell loved bowling and the camaraderie of the sport.
