L. Hayward Cayton, 81, died on Friday, August 4, 2023, in Florida, his residence for the past eight years.
He was born on September 17, 1941, in Radford, Va., to Howard and Evelyn Cayton. Hayward married the love of his life, Fay Juanita Clay, on March 9, 1966, and they were married 47 years.
Hayward was preceded in death by his wife, Fay; his parents, Howard and Evelyn Cayton; his firstborn son, Hayward Jr.; and brother, Les.
Hayward is survived by his sisters, Betty Ziringer, (husband, Ed) and Brenda Merritt, (husband, Lou); his children, son, Troy his wife, Peggy; daughter, Rhonda; and son, Tony his wife, Caroline; his grandchildren, Amanda, (Simon) Clay, (Jess) Codie, (Rachel) Cory, (Karissa), Alexis, Nicholas, Andrew, Ethan, Trevor, and Dorothy; and his great-grandchildren, Malic, Avery, CJ, McKenna, Noah, Emerysn, and Lilly.
Hayward was loved by many and known for his talkative nature, desire to help whomever he could, and his ability to be late to just about everything. He loved his family, friends, and bowling. Hayward started bowling at Viking Lanes in 1965, and bowled a perfect game on December 27, 2005, the highlight of his bowling career.
He was part of the Roanoke and surrounding areas business community with his company Valley Dust-Tex for many years. He had many friends and coworkers, and his outgoing personality and smile will be missed by all. Hayward served his country honorably in Vietnam War from October 15, 1962 through October 14, 1966.
