Carol Jean Hairfield Chitwood, 79, of Roanoke, went to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, after five courageous years of dialysis and being lovingly cared for by her husband, Robert L. Chitwood. Born on February 22, 1933, she was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur J. and Geneva H. Hairfield. Carol graduated from Jefferson High School and was an avid bowler both state and national and was a member of the Roanoke Valley Women’s Bowling Association. She was a member of Bethany Christian Church. Carol and her husband Bobby celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on June 6, 2012.

Surviving are her loving husband, Robert L. Chitwood; sons, Bruce Chitwood, and Barry Chitwood and wife, Robyn; brothers, Don Hairfield and David Hairfield; sister, Cynthia Barger and husband, Rickey; and special friend, Kay Stultz.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Ryan Evans, and Dr. John Daugherty, and to Fresinius Dialysis employees, Karen and Lynn, and Amedisys Hospice employees, Rachel, Buffie, Cindy and Julie.
