Christine Brightwell Decker

Christine Brightwell Decker, 90, of Roanoke, Va., died on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel O. Decker; parents, Joseph K. Brightwell and Kate Younger Brightwell; brothers, Joseph Brightwell and Carl L. Brightwell; and sister, Hazel Wright. Surviving are her children, Buddy Decker, of Roanoke, Dennis Decker and wife, Peggy, of Roanoke, Marilyn Schuelke, of Richmond. Also surviving are sisters, Virginia Tinnell, of Mt. Airy, N.C., and Rosalie Lafferty, of Waynesboro, Va.; grandchildren, Kip Decker, Shawn Decker, Kurt Schuelke, Erin Schuelke, Mike Decker and Tracy Timmons; four great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Decker was a longtime member of Melrose Baptist Church where she was active in the Victory Sunday School Class. She served many years on the Roanoke Women’s Bowling Association and was inducted into the Association’s Hall of Fame in 1991. She was employed as an accountant for 17 years at All Star Lanes before retiring in 1983. The family suggests that memorials may be made to Melrose Baptist Church, 3520 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Va. 24019.
