Julia Pauline Mulzet Turk
Julia Pauline Mulzet Turk, 84, of Roanoke, passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Born in Fogelsville, Pa., and living most of her married life in Roanoke, Va., Julia was a longtime faithful member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. She was an avid bowler for many years and an active supporter of Roanoke Catholic Schools and athletics. A dedicated and loving mother and grandmother, Julia’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Because of her incredible work ethic, determination, perseverance and resilience, plus her strength of character, “Ninny” was a role model for us all. Employed by Eli Lilley (now Elizabeth Arden), Julia retired in 1992 after working over 25 years on the night shift (which enabled her to be a “Stay-At-Home-Mom” for her four sons during the day).
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Herman Stephen Turk Sr.; her father and mother, John and Julia Mulzet; and granddaughter, Angela Turk Tolley.
Left to cherish her memory are four sons, Frank Turk and wife, Lynn, David Turk and wife, Renée, Michael Turk and wife, Carol, and Herman Turk Jr. and wife, Lynn; grandchildren, Melissa Rosenfeld, Sean and Amanda Turk, Michael, Daniel, and Rachel Turk, Christopher and Kathy Taylor, and Brendan and Brian Turk; eight great-grandchildren, Nicole Tolley, Michael and Elizabeth Tolley, and great-great-granddaughter, Angela Grace Tolley, Hunter, Amber, and Kayla Tolley, Kiera, Jordan, and Corrina Rosenfeld; her brothers and sisters, John Mulzet, Bertha Elane, Steve and Pat Mulzet, Angie Rohrback, and Elsie and Allen Ruhe; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
With fondest memories, “Ninny” will always be remembered for her cherry pies, chocolate ice cream pies, chicken “soupie,” wooden spoon, her “Bird’s Nest,” placing name labels on everything, and dancing the polka.
Deepest appreciation is extended to the members of the ICU and 3rd floor staff at Lewis Gale Hospital and to the staff of “The Oaks” at Richfield for their kindness and tenderness in caring for Julia throughout her declining health.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to either St. Andrew’s Catholic Church Building Fund, 631 Jefferson St., NW, Roanoke, VA 24012 or to Roanoke Catholic Schools, 620 Jefferson St., NW, Roanoke, VA 24012. Online condolences may be made at http://www.Oakeys.com.
