Kathryn R. (Kathy) Schaeffer, 74, of Roanoke, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013. She was a loving wife; mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a great cook and an avid bowler. She also loved romance novels and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her husband, William E. “Bill” Schaeffer Jr.; children, Eugene Schaeffer (special friend, Robin Letchford), Teresa D. Maier (Roy), William E. “Bill” Schaeffer III (Lee Ann), Everett D. Schaeffer (Christy), Joe Benge, Ricky Benge; grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua, Douglas, Dalton, Emily, Drake, Evan, Mark, Aimee, Autumn, Adam; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Grayson, Haleigh, Curtis, Kaylee; special cousin, J.V. Adkins; sisters, Mary Ann, Frances, brother, Johnny.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the CCU unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses; Brenda and Terrie, and Dr. Swank at the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital CCU for their outstanding care.
