Richard Marvin McNeil

13503235-1_234423Richard Marvin McNeil, 77, of Roanoke, went to be with his beloved ones on Wednesday, December 4, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stewart and Myrtle McNeil; his brother, Stewart McNeil Jr.; and sisters, Virginia Martin and Leon Peirson; father and mother-in-law, Hubert and Olivia Jones. Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Norma McNeil. Also surviving are two sons, Larry McNeil and wife, Sharon of Troutville, Marvin McNeil and wife, Laurie of Maryland; daughter, Angel Hazlewood and husband, Steve of Salem; as well as grandchildren, Michael, Barslund, Elizabeth, Brandon, Ashley, Connor, Sam and Sedona. Also his wife’s family which he loved as his own, three brothers, Bud Jones and wife, Sue, James Jones and wife, Eileen, and Ronald Jones; many nieces, nephews, and cousins that he loved so much; special friends, Eddie and Boots Morgan and so many other special friends, too many to mention.

After a childhood in West Virginia, Richard was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Air Force and retiring after 22 and 1/2 years of Honorable service. Richard met his wife as a teenager in Giles County. After his retirement from the Air Force, they decided to move to Roanoke in 1977. He loved bowling, hunting, golf and rib-eye steaks before he became so sick. The family would like to say a special thanks to the trauma team and vascular ICU staff at Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their care.
