Theodore Joseph Mittelstetter, Sr. (Ted/Teddy), 78, of Salem, and formerly of Maryland, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, April 7, 2015.

Ted was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid sports fan particularly of the Washington Redskins and Washington Capitals, but enjoyed Little League just as much as professional sports. When not watching sports, he could often be found reading his Bible and listening to traditional southern gospel music. Ted’s pride and joy were his children and grandchildren, or as he called them, his “2nd Batch”. He was an avid bowler beginning in his hometown of Washington, D.C. continuing in Maryland and Virginia until the age of 75. Ted served his country in the United States Navy and retired from the Kroger Company after many years of service.

Ted was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Robertson; brothers, Kenneth and Louis Mittelstetter; and brothers-in- law, Donald Clarke, Sr., Charlie Brice, and Clen Robertson.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years, Joyce Settles Mittelstetter; his children, Lori Cummings (Tim), Dawn Tooley (Michael), T.J. Mittelstetter, Jr., Toby Mittelstetter (Randi Cole); grandchildren, Kelly Keith Clatterbuck (Robert) and their children, Owen, Emma and Jase; Ryan Keith (Gabbie Liegey), Gabby Mittelstetter, Shane Tooley (Katie Meador), Sarah Tooley (Ty Arrington), Chris Mittelstetter, Nathan Cole, and Madison Cole; sisters, Helen Clarke, Judy Brice; sister-in-law, Janet Benson; brother-in-law, Marshall Settles (Carol); also numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and his special four-legged companion, Goldberg.
