2012-2013 USBC League and Tournament Rule Changes

During the 2012 USBC Annual Meeting’s legislative session, three league rule changes and one tournament rule change were approved by the delegates.

LEAGUE RULE CHANGES

  1. ALL games bowled in a playoff or special contest (i.e., league tournament) WILL count towards the individual’s final league average but will NOT count towards special league individual prizes.
  2. A league’s board of directors is allowed to adjust a player’s average upward during the season with a two-thirds vote.
  3. Total pins PLUS HANDICAP is to be used to break ties for position matches in handicap leagues.

TOURNAMENT RULE CHANGE

  • Require bowlers to use the highest of either their composite average of all leagues or the bowler’s highest single-league average of 21 games or more.

More information regarding the USBC Playing Rules & Commonly Asked Questions can be found on bowl.com under the Leagues tab.

Vinton Bowling Center, AMF Hilltop Lanes to rotate oil patterns

Apologies to those of you that see this more than once.

According to Jerry Foutz, Manager at AMF Hilltop Lanes, Vinton Bowling Center and AMF Hilltop Lanes will be rotating their oil patterns monthly like the NRV Superbowl has been doing. “Ok, here is the deal. Billy and I are going to change the shot each month. I (Jerry) will rotate around 4 different patterns. An easy, med easy, med hard, and a hard. I am putting out a new shot starting tonight (7-17-2012) for 2 Weeks. This is a medium #4239 called middle road. A little less forgiving (I hope).”

This oil pattern is from the Kegel Navigation Patterns Challenge Series and it’s description follows.

MIDDLE ROAD #4239: In political terms, this pattern is centrism in nature because the characteristics lie between the extremes of having to play too far to the right or too far to the left. The MIDDLE ROAD is a 39 foot pattern that is moderately challenging; it’s not too easy, it’s not too difficult. The best mindset and line for this pattern is usually somewhere near the middle of the road.

More information about the oil pattern rotation will be posted as it is received.

NRV’s Senior Bowlers Recognized

TheBurgs, a website and print publication covering Blacksburg, Christiansburg and communities of the New River Valley has a column today in their Sports section (Don’t Let Age Fool You – Senior Leagues Are Good) focusing on their senior bowlers and their accomplishments at the recent Virginia State Senior Tournament. Their first story of the bowling season was “In The Zone“, a recap of the first few weeks of Youth and Senior bowling. It’s good to see that some local media still show an interest in local bowling stories and accomplishments.
